Job Summary/Objective

The ideal candidate is a driven individual focused on building a career with our team through professional presence, relationship-building, solid decision-making, planning, and organizational skills. Will serve as Project Manager for local projects with resources provided as needed from other operation centers and locally as we grow. May serve as Project Engineer on assigned projects. Build upon existing client relationships in Eastern Iowa to generate project leads and generate new business. Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area.  Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.  Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.  Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.   Implements quality program.

  • May serve as Project Manager or Project Engineer on assigned projects. 
  • Determine and participate in Marketing and CSM assignments.
  • Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.   
  • Works on a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex features.  
  • Leads quality control in quality program.
  • Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.  
  • Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.  
  • Assists upper-level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor. 
  • Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.  
  • Prepares proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs. 
  • Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
  • Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments. 
  • Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills.   
  • Represents the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises all staff necessary to complete assignments.   

 

Work Environment

  • Mix of office environment and outdoor

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, walking, standing, bending, ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

 

Travel Required

  • The travel expectation for this role will be up to 25%. Will be expected to travel to Des Moines, IA twice per month to coordinate with team members. Team members will also travel to Cedar Rapids, IA to support expansion and integration into the Kirkham Michael team.

Required Education and Experience

Requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 8 years of experience required
  • Professional Engineering License 

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Preferences that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

  • Experience managing medium-sized to large ($150,000+ Design Fee) transportation projects.
  • Client relationship management experience. 
  • High level of energy; great at problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client and internal deadlines.
