Research Community Engagement Coordinator

Facilitates and strengthens the connection between a Boys Town National Research Hospital and the broader community. Enhances collaboration, communication, and mutual understanding between researchers and the community, with the goal of promoting community involvement in research activities. Serves as a liaison, ensuring that research projects align with community needs and priorities while fostering a sense of trust and partnership.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Works with BTNRH researchers to facilitate participation in research studies for Spanish/English bilinguals.

  • Works with the Community Engagement Program Supervisor to cultivate positive relationships with new and established community partners in the Hispanic and Latino, African American, Indigenous, and Rural communities.

  • Attends community screening, education and recruitment events to build relationships, establish trust, and educate community members about BTNRH research opportunities.

  • Represents BTNRH at community meetings, coalitions and chambers of commerce in the Hispanic and Latino, African American, Indigenous, and Rural communities.

  • Creates written translations (English to Spanish) of documents used at community screening, education and recruitment events.

  • Translates (English to Spanish) verbal communication in real time at community screening, education and recruitment events.

  • Identify, engage, and maintain relationships with community organizations, leaders, and stakeholders.

  • Conducts outreach activities to inform the community about research initiatives and their potential impact.

  • Collaborates with community members to identify research topics and questions that are relevant to their concerns and interests.

  • Assists in conducting surveys, focus groups, or other methods to assess community needs and priorities.

  • Facilitates partnerships between the research institution and community organizations, nonprofits, and governmental agencies.

  • Organizes meetings and forums to foster collaboration and dialogue between researchers and community members.

  • Translates complex research findings into accessible language for the community.

  • Provides educational resources and workshops to increase community members' understanding of research processes and outcomes.

  • Assists in the design and implementation of research projects that address community needs and priorities.

  • Ensures that research activities are conducted in an ethical and culturally sensitive manner.

  • Collects feedback from the community to assess the effectiveness of engagement efforts.

  • Provides regular reports on community engagement outcomes to internal stakeholders.

  • Promotes cultural competence and sensitivity within the research institution to ensure that research activities respect the diversity of the community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Understanding of research processes and ethical considerations.

  • Familiarity with the specific community or demographic the research institution serves.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Experience in community engagement or outreach work required.

  • Minimum of two years of experience required.

  • Fluent in written and spoken Spanish required.

  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative(CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
