The Bioinformatics Analyst at Streck will work as part of a cross-functional team with R&D, Biostatistics, Marketing, Regulatory, and Business Development etc., participating in the development of a wide range of products that provides validity of clinical test results. The role requires individual contributions to create methods and pipelines for harmonizing, integrating, and visualizing wide ranges of data, especially large omics data (e.g., genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic). This role reports to R&D Biostatistics Manager.

Essential Duties and Functions:

1. In close collaboration with R&D Scientists, either develop tools from scratch to streamline data integration, analysis, and visualization or optimize stakeholders’ rough scripts to create a robust and reproducible bioinformatic data pipeline.
2. Collaborate with R&D Scientists to analyze wide ranges of data, especially large omics data (e.g., genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic) and troubleshoot issues, as part of new product development or analytical solutions.
3. Collaborate with R&D Scientists and marketing to prepare scientific content for publication (e.g., scientific abstracts, posters and presentations, technical notes, peer-            reviewed journal articles), to promote the growth of multiple Streck product lines.
4. Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for wide ranges of data and applications.
5. Attend, facilitate, train and actively participate in all applicable division, department, and team meetings.
6. Stay abreast of new developments in computational biology, industry developments, and regulatory guidance through literature review and attendance at workshops and professional meetings.
7. Contribute in responses to regulatory, quality, and compliance, or other legal settings; prepare protocols and responses to requests from regulatory agencies, local Institutional Review Board, and other health authorities.
8. Understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry to interpret biological data accurately.
9. Proficiency in using bioinformatics tools for sequence alignment, genome analysis, variant calling, miRNA analysis, differential expression analysis, and handling high-throughput sequencing data (e.g., BLAST, Bowtie, GATK, miRbase, DESeq2, edgeR).
10. Proficiency in using tools like GOseq and DAVID for functional enrichment analysis.
11. Strong background in statistical methods for high-throughput sequencing data, including normalization, batch effect correction, and hypothesis testing as well as dimensionality reduction (e.g., t-SNE, UMAP).

Position Requirements include:

• Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biostatistics, or related field.
• Minimum of 2+ years of related work experience or Ph.D. degree with relevant experience outside degree requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Effective use of shell scripting and Fluency in R and/or Python package development.
• Ability to distill complex concepts into terms easily grasped by a general audience.

Technical Competencies:

• Proficiency with R and Python.
• Knowledge of liquid biopsy and general clinical laboratory operations and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of FDA Design Control and QSR compliance requirements.
• Basic knowledge of FDA/EU submission process and guidelines for IVD/IVDR submissions.
• Basic knowledge of CLSI guidelines for analytical and clinical studies of medical devices.
• Ability to collaborate with various departments within the organization.
• Ability to design experiments that test a clear and concise hypothesis.
• Ability to present technical material in a written format.
• Ability to generate and customize data visualization (PCA plots, Volcano plots, Circos plots etc).
• Ability to use common Bioconductor packages, ggplot, tidyverse etc.
• Ability to communicate effectively with external customers and colleagues of different backgrounds both in scientific and business settings.
• Strong analytical, data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Experience with relational database design and maintenance (i.e., MySQL, Postgres) is a plus.
• Good knowledge of Linux is a plus.

Work Environment/Travel Demands:

The work environment is a climate-controlled biological/chemical laboratory. Occasional short durations to cold temperatures inside walk-in coolers. Ability to wear required laboratory clean room clothing (laboratory coats, hair bonnets, and beard covers (as applicable) and other safety/protective equipment (masks, gloves, and/or face shields for example) for up to two and a half hours consecutively. Travel demands for this position are estimated up to 5%. If travel is required, this travel may include customer visits, events/trade shows, and completion of presentations primarily throughout Domestic US or International regions.
Employees must comply with all travel recommendations regarding “safe travel” according to company policies and guidelines, and all federal, state, local, and international orders.

Physical and Mental Demands:

Sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This also includes standing for up to two and a half hours consecutively, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, stooping, fingering, and grasping. Expressing and receiving detailed information through written and oral communication.
