DEPARTMENT: Communication and Marketing

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated part-time Marketing Assistant to support our marketing team. The ideal candidate would support all functions of the Communication and Marketing Office with a primary focus on the Alma College website and Microsoft SharePoint site, and assist with design, content creation, and proofreading.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

This position reports to the director of communication and marketing and has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - may include, but not limited to, the following:

Website Optimization & Maintenance:
- Regularly update web content, including text, images, page titles and meta descriptions
- Follow Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices
- Assist in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving any website issues or bugs
Design Support:
- Create or update marketing materials (e.g., banners, social media graphics, email templates) using tools like Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or similar design software
- Ensure design consistency with brand guidelines
Content Creation & Proofreading:
- Assist in drafting and editing blog posts, email newsletters, and other marketing materials
- Proofread and edit content for grammar, clarity, and style
- Support social media content by collecting photos, and video clips, proofreading, and style accuracy

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in website management tools (e.g., WordPress) or a willingness to learn
  • Basic knowledge of SEO and digital file organization best practices
  • Experience with design tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Bachelor's degree

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a marketing or digital marketing role is a plus
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign or other desktop publishing software
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or other photo-editing software
  • Experience using project management tools like Asana
  • Knowledge of file organization and storage best practices for intranet platforms like Microsoft SharePoint
  • Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations.
