Location: Hybrid-Omaha NE, or Remote

The Job:

Product-Focused, Quality-Minded, Mentorship-Driven: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Applications Development Manager to lead and inspire a team of software engineers. This role is essential in shaping and nurturing a high-performing, customer-focused engineering culture. You will be responsible for developing product-minded engineers, fostering an Agile mindset, and driving meaningful business outcomes by delivering customer value with quality, not just features.  At Buildertrend, you’ll be part of an innovative and dynamic team that values impact, collaboration, and continuous learning.  You’ll get to work on meaningful projects that directly enhance the customer experience and enjoy opportunities for personal and professional growth within a supportive environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Servant Leadership: Foster a people-first leadership approach, enabling your team to succeed by removing obstacles, providing support, and empowering them to take ownership of their work.
  • Team Development: Grow and mentor product-minded software engineers at all levels, fostering their technical and professional growth.
  • Customer-Centric Engineering: Instill a culture of delivering customer value, ensuring the team prioritizes quality and impactful solutions over simply building features.
  • Team Performance: Build and sustain high-performing teams that consistently meet or exceed expectations in delivering high-quality, customer-focused software solutions.
  • Agile Leadership: Champion Agile principles and practices, enabling teams to respond effectively to change and deliver iteratively.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, Agile Coaches, QA Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication across roles and teams.
  • Technical Coaching: Leverage your experience as an engineer to coach and guide engineers at all levels, providing technical mentorship and fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Cultural Leadership: Act as a cultural leader within the organization, promoting inclusivity, collaboration, and shared ownership of success.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate and improve processes, both within your team and across other engineering teams, driving operational excellence and scalability.
  • Thought Leadership: Evangelize best practices in engineering, Agile methodologies, and team dynamics. Mentor peers and contribute to the broader engineering community within the organization.

Who You Are and What You Need:

  • 5 years of software development experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering preferred.
  • At least 1 year of proven experience leading software engineering teams, with a track record of building and scaling high-performing teams preferred.
  • Strong technical background, having previously served as a Senior Engineer (or similar role) or higher.
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and a commitment to fostering an Agile mindset over Agile ceremonies.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Passion for developing and coaching engineers, helping them grow into product-focused leaders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on quality, delivering customer value and driving meaningful business outcomes.
  • Experience in process evaluation and improvement across teams and functions.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive engineering culture.
